The Hey, I Know You Episode

In this bonus episode, I talk with someone you may recognize - me! This comes after receiving a few emails from listeners who were curious as to whether I'd ever spoken about my own podcaster journey.

In this short episode, I share how long I've been podcasting and what it means to me, as well as details about two other shows of mine that I'll be relaunching in the new year.

I also share some details you might not know about me, including a fun story about Sean Connery, and my time as a fairy godmother, costume and all!

As we get ready to close down for the holidays, I want to thank you for listening to the show each week, and making Podcaster Stories a part of your regular podcast listening schedule.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, and manage to relax, recuperate, and spend some quality time with those that matter the most. Here's to 2021 being a better year for all.

Hi, and welcome to Podcaster Stories each episode we'll have

Speaker:

a conversation with podcasters from across the globe and share

Speaker:

their story. What motivates them, why they started to show

Speaker:

how they grew in the show and more will also

Speaker:

talk about their personal lives and some of the things

Speaker:

that have happened that made them the person they are

Speaker:

today. Now here's your host. Danny Brown. Hi, and welcome

Speaker:

to a special bonus episode of Podcaster Stories this week,

Speaker:

I'm talking to myself, this comes from a couple of

Speaker:

emails that I received over the last month or so

Speaker:

where people were, you know, sharing an enjoyment of the

Speaker:

show and the guests I was speaking to, but they

Speaker:

were curious if there'd been any episodes where I'd, you

Speaker:

know, either chatted about my own podcast or journey if

Speaker:

you like, or been on other podcasts.

Speaker:

So I thought I'd put this one together as a

Speaker:

bonus episode, as I wind down 2020 into the holidays

Speaker:

and ready for the continuation of Podcaster Stories in January.

Speaker:

So I am Danny obviously, and I have been podcasting

Speaker:

on and off since 2010, but giving it the right

Speaker:

amount of focus since 2018, I currently host this show,

Speaker:

Podcaster Stories, and I have two other shows I will

Speaker:

be relaunching in the new year after a hiatus last

Speaker:

year, whilst my wife and I moved home, brought our

Speaker:

kids up north, et cetera. So these shows are A

Speaker:

Downsized Life, which charts my family's decisions to move from

Speaker:

a big city to a little village, about three hours

Speaker:

North, and looked to lead to a simpler life. The

Speaker:

other show is called Mental Health and Me, which I

Speaker:

cohost with my wife.

Speaker:

She used to do it herself, but we've decided to

Speaker:

make it a cohosted show as we relaunch it. And

Speaker:

this looks to talk about dealing with mental health issues

Speaker:

from a family point of view. My wife suffers from

Speaker:

both depression and anxiety. I was diagnosed with both of

Speaker:

them a couple of years ago, and our young son

Speaker:

also has anxiety. So between the three of us, we've

Speaker:

got a lot of, you know, things that A) we

Speaker:

can cover together, but B) helps us understand some of

Speaker:

the issues that, that we go through and may help

Speaker:

you if you have your own mental health issues. So,

Speaker:

as I mentioned, they'll be relaunching probably mid to late

Speaker:

January next year. Some of the things that you may

Speaker:

not know about me include the fact that James Bond

Speaker:

used to deliver milk to my grandmother.

Speaker:

Back when Sean Connery was a young man, he worked

Speaker:

as a milkman in Fountainbridge, which is a, sorta, little

Speaker:

place, It's like a, a suburb of Edinburgh, if you

Speaker:

like, back in Scotland, where I come from, as you

Speaker:

can probably tell. And a milkman's role was to deliver

Speaker:

milk to customers. And you'd go around in like a,

Speaker:

a horse and cart and dropping off the milk bottles,

Speaker:

to customers way early in the morning. So my grandmother

Speaker:

was one of these customers. And used to love to

Speaker:

tell us how James Bond always gave her a special

Speaker:

delivery each day, make of that what you will. I

Speaker:

was also the Fairy Godmother in my school plan of

Speaker:

Cinderella, complete with wand and big puffy dress. And I

Speaker:

can play any tune you give me, using just a

Speaker:

pencil and my teeth, as long as I know what

Speaker:

the tune is. When it comes to podcasting, for me,

Speaker:

it's an amazing medium to share stories, connect with people,

Speaker:

and learn about the things that you may never have

Speaker:

heard of otherwise.

Speaker:

Because of the spoken voice format, it feels more intimate

Speaker:

than say blogging or video. And because of this, lets

Speaker:

a podcaster, and the listener really connect. And I think

Speaker:

that's why I have really moved in the last couple

Speaker:

of years, ah, to really focus on podcasting as opposed

Speaker:

to the, the weekly blog newsletter that I used to

Speaker:

do. It's also led to me joining the Captivate FM

Speaker:

team, which means I'm really fortunate enough to be doing

Speaker:

something I really love with people that are genuinely nice

Speaker:

and want only the best for fellow podcasters. This includes

Speaker:

the Captivate FM, you know, podcast hosts services, podcast websites,

Speaker:

a Rebel Base Media team, et cetera. So it's been

Speaker:

really awesome to join the team this year and see

Speaker:

what they've got coming out, you know, for next year.

Speaker:

And I guess I should say "we've" got coming out

Speaker:

now that I'm part of the team. Anyhoo, this has

Speaker:

been a bonus episode of Podcaster Stories. Like I said,

Speaker:

I will be taking a short break over the holidays

Speaker:

so I can just sort of switch off, enjoy my

Speaker:

time with family, and sort of look back over, on

Speaker:

what's been a, a really weird year in a lot

Speaker:

of ways, but a really enjoyable year in many, many

Speaker:

other ways. They'll be a couple of these special 'year

Speaker:

end episode roundups' for next week and the week after.

Speaker:

The show will be back to its usual chat format

Speaker:

in January, but until then, take care, stay safe, and
