A Look Back at The First Year of Podcaster Stories
On April 21st 2020, Podcaster stories was launched. Unlike my other podcasts up until that point, this wouldn't be a solo show - instead, it'd be an interview-style show.
Not only that, but it would be an interview-style show with fellow podcasters, many of whom had interview shows of their own. So, to say I was a little nervous would be an understatement!
But, 12 months on, I'm enjoying it as much as ever, and have some fun ideas regarding the next 12 months and beyond.

So a funny thing happened on the way to planning
Speaker:out Season Four of Podcaster Stories, and that was realizing
Speaker:the show turned one yesterday, April 21st. So in this
Speaker:quick bonus episode, I just wanted to say, thanks for
Speaker:being here for the last 12 months and have a
Speaker:look back at the, I guess the gestation of the
Speaker:show. I'm not even sure if that's the right word,
Speaker:but when I started the show back in April, 2020,
Speaker:I had an idea of what I wanted to do
Speaker:with the show and how I wanted it to progress.
Speaker:This was something brand new though, as my previous podcast,
Speaker:with the exception of a business one I used to
Speaker:co-host at the marketing agency I used to work at,
Speaker:they'd all been solo affairs. But now I was creating
Speaker:an interview style show, and one that I really wanted
Speaker:to get to know all the guests I had on.
Speaker:Thing is, these guests would also be fellow podcasters and,
Speaker:often ones who had her own interview style show as
Speaker:well. So I was a bit nervous as I started
Speaker:out, but thankfully they all turned out to be great
Speaker:guests, very gracious with their time and the stories that
Speaker:they shared because as the show name entails Podcaster Stories
Speaker:is about sharing these stories of the podcasters that we
Speaker:tend to listen to. And it wasn't just about their
Speaker:podcasts that I wanted to get to know, although it's
Speaker:very useful to obviously hear about their own podcast growth
Speaker:and how they grow their show and their voice with
Speaker:that. But what I wanted to do was really get
Speaker:to know who the person behind the voice, and how
Speaker:that made them, how that shaped them to, be the
Speaker:person they are today.
Speaker:This includes very personal stories at times, such as overcoming
Speaker:child abuse, overcoming sexual abuse, overcoming cancer and mental health
Speaker:issues, and a lot more. And hearing these stories and
Speaker:being able to share them with you, the listener, has
Speaker:been incredibly inspiring, and really helped me grow as a
Speaker:person individually over the last 12 months. When you think
Speaker:of some of the things that are, that they have
Speaker:overcome and with the examples they've shared in their episodes,
Speaker:it really makes you, you know, look at your own
Speaker:life and be like, well, was it so bad that
Speaker:I spilled some milk when I was getting the kids'
Speaker:breakfast? No, it wasn't. Yeah. It made a mess of
Speaker:the kitchen floor, but it wasn't a, an earth shattering
Speaker:world ending experience.
Speaker:So it has been incredibly interesting and I'm very grateful
Speaker:to my guests for sharing their stories. The show has
Speaker:also evolved over the last 12 months from when it
Speaker:first started. Initially the episodes were fairly short at around
Speaker:a 20, maybe 25 minute mark, but what I was
Speaker:finding was I wasn't getting enough time to really talk
Speaker:with my guests and chat with them about their story.
Speaker:So in Season Two of Podcaster Stories, I flipped the
Speaker:format a bit. It was still an interview style show,
Speaker:but I flipped to it to be a longer episode.
Speaker:And episodes ranged from 40 minutes to 50 minutes, to
Speaker:sometimes over an hour, and I'll be honest, when I
Speaker:made the change, I was a little bit wary as
Speaker:to whether people would enjoy the show less, because it
Speaker:was a longer format.
Speaker:You're talking about doubling the length of the episode, but
Speaker:thankfully the, the listeners and the feedback I've got since
Speaker:moving into that format has been universally good. There've been
Speaker:some people that preferred the previous version and that's completely
Speaker:understandable, but for the most part, listeners like yourself who
Speaker:have written to me, or tweeted to me, or, or
Speaker:whatever, to advise that they enjoy the new format. So
Speaker:thank you for that. Moving forward, as I approach Season
Speaker:Four, I am going to start experimenting with some of
Speaker:the format as well. It will still be on an
Speaker:audio show, but there may be some video options involved
Speaker:as well, whether that's on YouTube or Facebook or something
Speaker:like that, or just even embedded on my website.
Speaker:We'll see, but I've got so many ideas that I
Speaker:want to start messing about with, and that could be
Speaker:just a bonus content with, with snippets, just for the
Speaker:video version, or it may be a livestream, on something
Speaker:like Streamyard or whatever when I'm recording the episode, and
Speaker:we have the guest on with myself, live streaming the
Speaker:episode during recording just for a special event now and
Speaker:again. So it's something I'm thinking about. And I'd love
Speaker:to hear your feedback as to whether that's something that
Speaker:would be interesting to listen to, or I should say
